On December 11, 2012, Islanders for Collaborative Policing hosted a
community conversation on policing and mental illness. Police officers, mental
health professionals, advocates for the mentally ill, and a representative from
the Bainbridge Island School District (among others) sat around a table and exchanged
views. There were no theatrics. There were no confrontations. There was,
instead, a shared sense of purpose, and several common themes expressed. Click here for our memo describing the event, and our follow up recommendations.
